Initial Teacher Education

I bring my 30 years of experience as a Primary school teacher, and my passion for oracy, to my role in Teacher Education.

I currently work with colleagues at Leeds Beckett University, in the following capacities:

  • Lecturing

  • Teaching Placement Support

  • Assessing prospective ITE candidates

If you work within an Initial and/or Continuing Teacher Education setting in Yorkshire and the Humber, and would like support from a highly experienced primary teacher and oracy specialist, read on to find out more about how I can support you and your students.

Lecturing

I lecture on a variety of primary areas in line with the Core Content Framework and Teacher Standards.

My oracy specialism underpins all lectures, allowing students to learn through communication skills, and to communicate their learning effectively and with confidence.

This style is supported by examples of how primary content can be taught through the oracy principles, and directly linked to research and best practice.

Teaching Placement Support

When teaching students are on placement, I provide the link between them, their mentor and school, and the university.

This support covers the entire period of the placement and plays a pivotal role in the success of the experience for all concerned.

This quality assurance ensures that learning is of the highest standard and that equitable support is available to all.

Assessing prospective ITE candidates

I regularly liaise with colleagues both at university and in school leadership teams, to assess the candidates applying for ITE places.

This involves facilitating and assessing group and individual tasks, conducting interviews and making informed suitability judgements for UCAS offers.

Workshops

I can offer workshops for ITE students on subjects including:

  • discrete oracy teaching,

  • good oracy practice in general teaching principles

  • building confidence for students’ own oracy and teacher presence.

If you would like to find out more about how I can support you and your ITE students, please email caroline@kitchentableteacher.co.uk, or telephone me on 07915 720699, and I would be very pleased to discuss this with you.
